Businesses across Ipswich town centre are being encouraged to take part in a ballot that will determine the future direction of the town's Business Improvement District (BID) for the next five years.

The ballot, organised by Ipswich Central BID, will give eligible levy-paying businesses the opportunity to decide whether the organisation continues its work supporting the town centre, waterfront and Connected Town area until 2031.

Ipswich Central has outlined a programme of investment focused on improving the town centre environment, supporting businesses, enhancing security, promoting events and driving footfall. The BID has operated in Ipswich for more than a decade and represents a wide range of sectors including retail, hospitality, leisure, education, culture, healthcare and professional services.

The organisation says its work has helped deliver initiatives including town centre marketing campaigns, business support programmes, security patrols, community projects and events aimed at attracting visitors into the town. Recent figures published by the BID highlight investments in street security, community projects and town centre events.

A successful ballot would allow Ipswich Central to continue delivering its proposed business plan and investment programme over the next five years. Under BID legislation, renewal ballots are held periodically to allow businesses to decide whether they wish to continue funding and supporting the organisation.

Ipswich Central's vision for the next term centres on creating a more vibrant, welcoming and connected town centre while ensuring businesses have a strong collective voice in shaping Ipswich's future.

The vote comes at an important time for the town, with major regeneration projects, economic development opportunities and ambitions such as the town's bid for UK City of Culture 2029 helping shape Ipswich's future direction.

Ipswich Central previously secured overwhelming support from businesses during its last renewal ballot, achieving one of the highest turnout rates recorded among UK Business Improvement Districts at the time.

The outcome of the latest ballot will determine whether the BID continues to lead projects and initiatives on behalf of town centre businesses for the next five-year term.
