Surrey Heath Borough Council has formally backed the renewal of the Collectively Camberley Business Improvement District (BID) ahead of a ballot that will determine its future for the next five years.

At a meeting of the Council’s Executive on 19 May, members agreed to support the re-election of the BID and endorsed its proposed business plan for a new term. The Council also confirmed that Councillor Kel Finan-Cooke, Portfolio Holder for Property and Economic Development, will continue to represent the authority on the BID Board.

The current BID term is due to expire in October 2026, with businesses across the BID area set to vote on whether Collectively Camberley should continue operating for a fourth term.

Collectively Camberley is a business-led and business-funded organisation that delivers projects and initiatives designed to enhance the town centre beyond the services normally provided by the local authority. Its work includes town centre events, seasonal promotions, marketing campaigns, Christmas lights, public realm improvements and business support initiatives.

Council Leader Shaun Macdonald said the decision reflects the authority’s continued support for the BID and its vision for the future of Camberley town centre. He said both organisations share a commitment to maintaining a vibrant, welcoming and modern destination that supports independent retailers, hospitality businesses, leisure facilities and community events.

The BID has operated in Camberley since 2011 and secured strong backing from businesses during its previous renewal ballot in 2021, when 93 per cent of votes cast supported its continuation.

Businesses eligible to vote in the upcoming ballot will decide whether Collectively Camberley continues its work in the town centre beyond October 2026.
